The Vision. The Start. It is widely known that in the forthcoming era of self-regulation, an atmosphere of Compliance and evasion could only spell disaster and closure of many organisations. The general approach to shipboard management was analyzed to be found wanting. The grey areas were primarily with Basics. Basics of communication, Basics of Shipboard aspects of human relationships, basics of self-management were addressed effectively through the VRM programme. The main aim was to internalize the ISM code and STCW 95 amendments amongst the ship and shore management to reduce stress caused by their implementation and improve efficiency. Participants from the Directorate General of Shipping, Lal Bahadur Shastri College of Advanced Maritime Studies and Research (LBSCAMSAR), Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI), Mitsui OSK, OMCI, KC Chellaram, Tolani Shipping, Electra Marine, Vships, Farsund, Chevron, Herald Maritime Services, Pratibha Shipping, Accord Shipping, Starship Andromeda, Anglo Eastern, Paramount have attended this course. The initial VRM course was launched with the able support of Mitsui, Great Eastern Shipping, Denholms, Dynacom tankers, Pratibha shipping, Chevron and Farsund shipping and The SSS is greatly indebted to Mitsui OSK and Great Eastern who gave us the Initial Boost. With the vision to expand the activities worldwide we started with Distance learning programmes (DLP) for Chinese deck and engine cadets and in-house training in Maritime English, Vessel Resource Management and Safety Management Systems for PT Samudera Denholms, Indonesia.
